Recently the book "Finding the Fountain of Youth Inside Yourself" by Shad Helmstetter (ISBN 0671746200) left for a better home. Search for it or similar gently used and nearly new books, music and movies here or to the left on this site.

Helmstetter's message to those of us who feel that we might have lost our way a bit over the years is that we need to need to recapture our "inner youth" and rediscover our enthusiasm for life. I always have a bit of time for good pop psychology. Most of us can take some thoughts from someone else and see where they might apply. Where I stop is some wholehearted devotion to a particular author, psychologist or belief. I'm more electic and a mix and match type of person. However, something or somethings, (a book or books, a series of events, an inspiring message) have to get us out of our ruts of life if that's what we want. Most of us do. We just don't or can't seem to get started effectively. Try again. Once moving, the intertia is strong.
Here's a checklist for Helmstetter's book that you can copy and paste on your bathroom mirror (or whatever works for you) for a quick reminder. If it's not this, put something else on your computer desktop. Keep some focus and I hope you have a great day.

Written prior to it's publishing date in 1985, by Alvin Toffler for AT&T and predicting then the future breakup of AT&T, Amazon.com indicates on it's site that 16 others management books cite this book.

Don't you just hate it when you're books with the best titles have to move on to other homes.  I thought I could pass this on to my daughters if they needed a little refocusing down the road. Oh well, another one will come available soon from someone who doesn't need it anymore. So what did it say.

It ended up with a 6 week plan outline, after you took some inventory of who you are hoping to meet and what that person would be like.

Week 1:
-Find a partner/support person
-Tell 5 people you are looking for a relationship
-Take all steps to be ready for a relationship
-Take one action to find a relationship-repeated each week
-Smile and say hello to 50 men (this is my favorite-I've been a sucker for a smile all my life)-repeated each week

Week 2:
-Meet 2 new men-repeated each week following
-Improve your looks
-Ask 5 friends to fix you up or invite you to an event

Week 3
-Do something out of character
-Compliment one man each day
-Purge your closet

Week 4
-Tell a man you find him attractive
-Plan a party
-Interview two happily married/in relationship couples about their relationship
-Check your progress

Week 5
-Create a relationship "portrait"
-Find new ways to meet more men (online, groups,etc) (repeated)

Week 6
-Conduct an "intimacy interview"

Meeting new people and smiling and laughing, with some flattery when strategically appropriate thrown in, will work almost any time, I think, as long as you stick with the method for a while.

Jack Rabinovitch founded the $40,000 book prize in 1994, in honour of his late wife Doris Giller, columnist and assistant book editor at the Toronto Star. His own literary interests, along with a desire to see Canadian books get a proper celebration, contributed to a plan to throw a party and give a big prize.
